DIY STINKY SHOE SPRAY

Do you have stinky shoes? If you do then you need to make this shoe spray. This DIY takes less than five minutes to make and you will love it. I swear by this spray and it is an essential in our home.

Dustin's shoes always stink reek but the summer heat brings out the worst smells. Yuck! Here is the recipe that I use to keep our shoes smelling fresh!

Ingredients:
Water
Witch Hazel
15 drops Purification Essential Oil
20 drops Citrus Fresh Essential Oil
Glass Spray Bottle

Instructions:
-Drop the essential oils into the spray bottle. (Tip: Use a small funnel to make it easier)
-Fill half of the bottle with Witch Hazel and the other half with water.

Tip: Try using a small funnel if you are having trouble getting the ingredients into the spray bottle.

To Use:
Shake well before each use. Spray into shoes. (I usually give each shoe 3-4 sprays)

You can create this spray without Witch Hazel but I like to use Witch Hazel because it evaporates quickly.

Purification is a blend containing Citronella, Rosemary, Lemongrass, and Tea Tree. It's great at getting rid of odors! This is also a "man-approved" scent in our house... Dustin doesn't typically like the "girly" smelling oils... Purification passes all of his scent tests.

Citrus Fresh is a blend containing orange, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, mandarin orange, and spearmint. It smells... well... citrusy!!! We love Citrus Fresh!

Purification and Citrus Fresh are great on their own but together are a powerhouse at getting rid of stinky stuff!

Hope you enjoy this shoe spray!

How Essential Oils Helped Me Fall In Love With Cooking

I never wanted to cook. I despised even thinking about cooking. The thought of preparing a meal and being let down by how it could taste made me want to pull my own teeth out.

When the holiday catalog came out I was surprised by how interested I was in the culinary set. I couldn't stop thinking about it. For once I was interested in cooking the food rather than just eating it.

Dustin's mom gave me the culinary set for Christmas and I was stoked!!! The kit comes with:
-stainless steel mixing bowl with a silicone lid
-stainless steel and silicone wisk, scraper, serving spoon, and spatula
-bamboo oil rack
-cookbook
-6 essential oils (peppermint, lavender, cinnamon bark, oregano, orange, and rosemary)

So far I have mastered the art of a great marmalade. I've even branched out of the recipe book and created my own favorite ones! I'm so surprised that I am able to cook food that we both like to eat.

The cookbook has everything from soups and meals to desserts. It offers a wide range of dishes which I love! I can't wait to experiment more.
The bamboo rack is very cute and I love having it displayed in the kitchen. I added all of my vitality oils to it and love creating new combinations with them!

Who would have thought that the oily world would make me fall in love with cooking!

Pet Safety with Essential Oils

Are Essential Oils safe to use around my pet? To keep it short and sweet, most oils are safe for pets but just like everything else they need to be used with caution. You'd give your pup a piece of chicken but not the entire chicken, right?

What's in My Oily Bag: Fall 2018 Edition

Here's what I've been carrying around on overnight trips this fall. My mom had her other shoulder replaced so this bag is geared towards keeping me stress free 😜  The bag I travel with is an essential oil carrying case and is from Pine Valley Market on Etsy.  I love this bag. It was affordable and is holding up very well. I've had it for over a year and it still looks brand new.

Okay, onto the goodies inside the bag...

Nail Serum Roller- This nail roller helps my nails grow long and strong. Click here to read what is in this roller.

Endoflex- I roll this over my thyroid morning and night. It really helps keep my body temperature level. Endoflex isn't my favorite smell (It smells very spearminty) but it works wonders. To combat the smell I apply it before I get in the shower. I find doing this helps the scent sink in before I start my day. (Fun Fact: The shower water actually helps drive the oil in further... that is why if you get an oil in your eye you should always rinse your eye with a carrier oil NOT water because water will just drive the oil in further.)

White Angelica- This oil is only available to Young Living members and if that's not the kicker for you to get started then I don't know what else to do for you 😂 White Angelica is a blend of a few oils including Bergamot, Geranium, and Rose. It smells very sweet and floral-like with a hint of earthy-ness. I LOVE using this on the crown of my head or over my chest. I love combining it with Frankincense and applying it before I meditate.

Stress Away- I bring this everywhere for obvious reasons. I usually put it on my wrists and the back of my neck. It smells so so so good!!!

Progessence Plus Serum- I apply this to my wrists twice a day. This serum really helps balance my hormones. If I stop taking this I notice a drastic difference. I stopped taking birth control in 2017 and for a while my hormones were through the roof. I would cry over the littlest things! Pro+ has saved me.

R.C.- I got struck with the fall-crud that was going around. I like to put R.C. all over my shower floor before I get in the shower. It smells great and really helps open my airways. R.C. stands for Respiratory Comfort and is a blend of Eucalyptus, Myrtle, Majoram, Pine, Lavender, Cypress, Black Spruce, and Peppermint.

Valor Roll-On- For all the strength, courage, and calmness. I roll this on my neck multiple times a day. This is another oil that has been life changing for me.

Immunity Roller- I will be posting a DIY on this roller soon... but until then it is a blend of Thieves, Oregano, Lemon, Tea Tree, and a few other oils. I roll it over my spine every night before bed. My previous batch was in a spray bottle... for the record I prefer it in a roller better 😊 I find that if I do fall below the wellness line this paired with Ningxia Red helps me bounce back faster. I also seem to be able to ward off the nasties for longer by using this roller. You need an immunity roller and Ningxia Red in your wellness arsenal, trust me.

Frankincense- I'm obsessed with Frankincense right now. As I mentioned above I love using it before I meditate. I crave the smell of Frankincense. It's amazing for your skin, emotions, and overall wellbeing. Go google the benefits of Frankincense right now!

Orange Epsom Salts- Pro Tip: Get every last drop out of your oil bottles! One of my favorite ways to do this is to fill my "empty" bottles with epsom salt. I leave the bottle full of epsom salt for a few days and then drop it right into my bath. It's amazing how fragrant the bath water is even though the bottle appeared empty!!! Also, have you tried an epsom salt bath?!?!?! Detoxifying and amazing. Try it!

Happiness Roller- Uh-Oh! I don't remember what I put in this roller... I think it has Inner Child, Peace and Calming II, White Angelica, and Surrender. It smells amazing and I like to apply it to my wrists on busy days. It keeps me calming, uplifting, and helps keep me cool in social situations.

That's everything in my oily bag this season. Click here and here to see what I had in my bag earlier this year.

What are your must-have fall oils?

Young Living Lavender Mint Shampoo and Conditioner Review

Back Story: I have medium length curly/wavy hair and with the wrong shampoo/conditioner my hair gets greasy fast. When I used toxin-filled shampoo/conditioner I would fly through the bottles. It was hard for me to find something that cleansed my hair and kept it clean. I felt like even though I would wash my hair it still felt dirty!

Review: I love using plant-based products that are toxin free! The best part is they leave my hair feeling clean and looking fresh! Have you seen the video floating around the internet of the hair stylist combing nasty wax out of peoples hair??! That used to be me!!!! Just because Target sells it doesn't mean it's good for you.

Last winter I received sample sizes of the Young Living Lavender Shampoo and Conditioner. This was my first experience with plant-based hair products. Plot twist- I fell in love with the Lavender Shampoo and Conditioner AND I couldn't get enough of the yummy smell!

When I ran out of the lavender shampoo and conditioner I decided to branch out and try the Lavender Mint Shampoo and Conditioner.

I started using these products on March 10. They lasted me over 150 days. That's pretty good for a 10oz bottle! My old toxin-filled products wouldn't have ever lasted me that long. I was buying big 32oz bottles and flying through them.

In June, my world was shook with the revolutionary idea of doubling the life of my shampoo bottle. Leslie Burris wrote all about that here. Leslie is super savvy! A little over half of my bottle of shampoo was left so I followed Leslie's instructions. Drumroll.....I loved the results! I felt like using the shampoo in its original form was almost too cleansing and weighing down my hair.

These products smell minty with a hint of lavender. They smell very clean but aren't too overpowering.

Once my hair dries I can smell a little bit of mint but no lavender. It's nothing noticeable to anyone else... only to myself when I shove my hair literally up my nose to smell it for the purpose of this blog post.

I use a quarter sized amount of shampoo and a half dollar (does anyone even know what those are anymore) sized amount of conditioner. My hair feels so clean after I shampoo and conditioner! Oddly enough, I feel like my hair looks just as clean even as the days go by.

These products are advertised as a "daily shampoo" and a "daily conditioner. I typically wash my hair twice a week... only more if something tragic happens. I do use a tiny bit of dry shampoo on my non-wash days but much less than I used to use when I was using toxin-filled products.

My only complaint is that my hair doesn't feel as soft as it feels when I use the lavender shampoo and conditioner. These products don't leave my hair feeling straw-like, but it's just doesn't feel as nice as I know it could feel. I feel like the mint lavender is really cleansing and not as moisturizing. I prefer the lavender shampoo and conditioner over the lavender mint... but if I could only get my hands on this one I would survive.

Young Living also has a Vanilla Copaiba Shampoo/Conditioner... have you tried it? I'll be trying it next! I have a feeling this stuff is amazing because it's always sold out... seriously, it's been sold out for months!! I can't wait to try it.

What's in My Oily Bag: Summer 2018 Edition

Hello from Camp!

I don't need much when I go to the lake. I bring a bathing suit, clothes, and everything listed below. The only thing I forgot was bug spray, and I did just fine without it!

Here's what I brought with me to camp.

Products:

Thieves Dentarome Toothpaste- for obvious reasons.

Mineral Sunscreen Lotion- safe for your skin and safe for the turtles (or any other water life) It’s thicker than other sunscreens and doesn’t have a scent. I feel like it spreads nicely and sinks into my skin without me feeling like a grease ball.

Meadow Mist Deodorant- Deodorant was one of the hardest products for me to “ditch and switch” This doesn’t smell like roses or whatever else my old Deodorant smelled like but it works and is MUCH better for my skin. Someday I want to try the Mountain Mint Deodorant but until then I have this.

Acne Treatment- Amazing. Contains salicylic acid. I use this product everyday. You probably wouldn’t notice but I can tell my skins clearing up!

Oils:

Progessence Plus Serum- I apply one drop on my wrist and rub it together with my other wrist. I do this twice a day. Balanced hormones are a must.

Peppermint Essential Oil- I bring this everywhere... literally everywhere. I apply it to the bottom of my nose whenever I feel any head tension. Peppermint works wonders!!! We don’t even own any bottles of pills anymore!

Thieves Essential Oil- I pop a drop or two of this into my Ningxia Red everyday. It adds a nice cinnamon kick and is great for keeping us healthy.

EndoFlex Essential Oil- Gotta keep that endocrine system satisfied. I roll this over my neck twice a day.

Sprays and Roller Balls:

Tummy Tamer Roll On- you just never know when an upset tummy is coming... or isn’t coming... I store this in an old Digize container. Digize and Peppermint with carrier oil FTW!

After Sun Spray- recipe here. Cooling and soothing. Perfect relief after a day out in the sun.

Long and Strong Nail Serum- MY NAILS ARE GETTING SO LONG AND SO STRONG. YAHOOOOOOOOOOO! I use this every day.

Stay Healthy Spray- I use this every night. I spray it onto my spine and rub it in. I swear it keeps me healthy.

Valor Roll On- Valor is basically my security blanket. I use it for courage and so many other things!

Muscle Melter Roll On- You never know when something’s going to snap, or crack, or pop. Okay... that was dramatic...But this stuff soothes muscles like nobody’s business.

Bella’s Oils: (Post on Bella's fear of car/travel coming soon!)

Lavender Essential Oil- Life changing Lavender!!! Thirty minutes before departure, I put a small drop of coconut oil in my palm followed by two drops of Lavender. I rub it down her spine, behind her ears, and on her collar. I rub the remaining into my hands to keep me cool, calm, and collected as well. She sits/lays in the car and doesn’t make a peep... she doesn't even shake.

Gentle Baby Essential Oil- Gentle baby is a blend of coriander, geranium, palmarosa, lavender, ylang ylang, roman chamomile, bergamont, lemon, jasmine, and rose. We put Gentle Baby on Bella's special blanket. She’s had this blanket since she was a tiny puppy. I’d like to think of it as her security blanket... like Linus's blanket from Charlie Brown... but I’m sure Bella just thinks it’s comfy to lay on. Gentle Baby helps keep Bella Baby calm! I put two or three (YL oils are super concentrated, you only need a little bit!)

What are your must haves for an overnight trip?

How I Got $250 of Young Living Products for FREE!

So... I placed a 'quick order' in July!

PLOT TWIST (insert the GIF of the paper that says plot twist literally twisting here) !!!!!
I placed a $250.93 order and paid.... wait for it.... 0.00 AKA zero AKA zippo AKA nada AKA *gasp* AKA #winning

There are two types of orders you can place with Young Living.
1. Essential Rewards (ER)- Only one ER order can be placed per month. If you want to stay on ER you must place a 50PV order every month. Plus you get freebies every 3, 6, 9, and 12 months, extra promos, discounted shipping, and you earn points to use on future orders. (If you aren't on ER, please tell me why.)
2. Quick Order- You can place as many quick orders per month as your heart desires. You can also get free promos but not as many as you would get when you order through ER. New products are usually only available through quick order for a short period of time before all heck breaks loose and everyone and their mother (... literally) can order the products through ER. If you want to use your points that you have accrued through ER you do so through a quick order.

In this case, I wanted to use my Essential Rewards points so I placed a Quick Order. And let me tell you, I placed a pretty hefty quick order. I placed an order of $250.93 and used some of my points.... I still have some left over! Okay, if you really want the breakdown, I used account credit for $8.43 (which was my tax and shipping) and used points for the rest of my order.

BA BAM!!  This is how we do things around here people. We earn points and then we spin around and place a huge order BUT DON'T SPEND ANY $$$ DOING IT.

Here's what I "bought":

  • Frankincense Vitality
  • Lemon Vitality
  • Lime Vitality
  • Peppermint Vitality
  • Lavender Vitality
  • Thieves Dental Floss 3pk
  • Thieves Foaming Hand Soap
  • Thieves Spray 1oz
  • Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier 3pk
  • Grapefruit Lip Balm
  • Satin Mint Facial Scrub
  • Lavender Oatmeal Soap
  • Stress Away Relaxing Bath Bombs
  • NingXia Red Singles 30ct
All that for free. Crazy, I know!!

You can do the same stinkin' thing.

All you have to do is place an order. When you place an order you earn points (called PV) and then you can redeem your points (PV) for whatever you want!

Happy Shopping!

What's in My Oily Bag: Spring 2018 Edition

I spent the last week at my Mom's house after she had her shoulder replaced. I thought it would be fun to share what oils I brought with me! I want to mention that my mom has her own collection of oils, so I didn't need to pack oils like Lavender, Stress Away, Lemon, and DiGize. Side Note: I diffused Lemon and Stress Away the whole week...yum!

Before you go all crazy, the cute oils bag is from an Etsy shop called Pine Valley Market. You have to check her shop out. Everything is so cute! I'm super impressed with the quality of the bag! The zipper is durable and the bag is thick and sewn together nicely.

Okay, time to show you the goodies inside the bag:

Valor Roll-On- I brought this for all the reasons.... I mean c'mon this stuff is amazing. My favorite place to apply it is on the back of my neck. It's good for keeping calm in tricky situations.

Progessence Plus Serum- I use this morning and night on my forearms in an effort to balance out my hormones.

Tea Tree Essential Oil- My face is still pretty bad but Tea Tree has turned it around!!! It is getting better and better everyday!

Orange Essential Oil- I use this for its uplifting aroma and on my toothbrush for a natural teeth whitener.

Peppermint Essential Oil- When I don't get enough good solid sleep I get a migraine. This week was full of inconsistent poor sleep... thank goodness I had my buddy Peppermint with me.

PanAway Essential Oil- For any and all discomfort.

Spearmint Vitality- I recently started putting one drop of Spearmint in my Slique Tea for liver support... it's also good for digestion and stress.

EndoFlex Vitality- I use this twice a day over my thyroid. I'm currently "battling the battle" (more on that later) and just trying to see what works.

Frankincense Vitality- I put Frank all over my face every night. It's just soothing and makes my skin super soft. Frankincense is kind of like the Driver's License of Essential Oils. For example, when you go anywhere, what do you bring??? Your driver's license. When packing oils, what do you definitely bring??? Frankincense!!! It's a staple and good for everything.

*Not pictured- Slique Tea- Dang, this stuff is so good!!! I have a gazillion packets in my purse. This is my favorite tea ever!

That's all Folks! What oils do you bring with you on your overnight journeys?

SaturDIY: EASY DIY Body Butter

During the winter, I struggle with dry skin. If I don't hydrate my skin every day I get nasty dry patches, and it ain't cute. Recently, I successfully made my first body butter and I love it! I'm obsessed! I keep looking at the jar and smiling because I made it myself!!! It is thick and provides moisture for the whole day! It is also super quick, easy, and doesn't require heat.

Here's how to make your own!

Ingredients:
1/3 Cup Shea Butter

1/3 Cup Coconut Oil
20 drops Essential Oil
Jar (to store your soon to be favorite body butter)

Let's talk about the Essential Oil I used for this recipe.

I used Orange Essential Oil. I used Orange because it has an uplifting aroma. Lavender, Grapefruit, Citrus Fresh, and Lime would also be excellent choices! You can use whatever EO you would like. Lavender would be great for a bedtime body butter! Using 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils is SO important. I use Young Living Essential Oils. I wholeheartedly trust the company and know that YL's oils are 100% pure with no added fillers or chemicals. Click here to purchase your own oils that are safe for you and your family.

Left Shea Butter : Right Coconut Oil
Instructions:
Use a power mixer and mix the Shea Butter and the Coconut Oil on a high speed. Keep in mind that both items are solids (or soft) so it is going to take a few minutes of mixing to combine both ingredients. After both items are mixed, add in the Essential Oil of your choice. Keep mixing until you achieve a fluffy body butter consistency.

Extra Tips:
-I added two drops of Vitamin E Oil for added skin benefits. I added in the Vitamin E Oil when I added in the Orange Essential Oil.

-I used solid forms of Shea Butter and Coconut Oil. I find it is easiest to measure them if I shave off small sections with a spoon and pack the shavings down in a measuring cup.

-I mixed my ingredients for approximately six minutes before reaching the fluffy consistency I was looking for.

Hope you love this as much as I do.

SaturDIY: DIY Nighttime Makeup Wipes

When I first decided to make my own makeup wipes I was less than impressed with the idea.... but something in me told me to try it. I was really unsure because I didn't think they would work as well as my drugstore makeup remover chemical filled wipes. This is going to sound silly, but I really thought they wouldn't do anything except swish the makeup around my face.

Wrong!!!

When I use the wipes I DIY'd, my face has never felt cleaner. There is no gross residue that my previous store bought wipes would give me. Yeah, I still want to wash my face, but we all know we are supposed to do that anyway after removing our makeup.

Ingredients:
4 TBSP Witch Hazel
2 TBSP Carrier Oil (I used coconut oil)
4 drops Peace and Calming Essential Oil
10 drops Lavender Essential Oil
10 drops Essential Beauty Serum
Cotton pads (Enough to fill up the container you use)
Glass Container

Let's talk about the oils for a sec.
Peace and Calming has done a world of good for my face regarding balancing and evening. Lavender is just a skin savior in general. Plus, both are calming which is great for the evening/nighttime. The Essential Beauty Serum is so good for dry skin. It smells good too! It smells like clove to me which I love! Your skin will drink this up, you'll love it.

Instructions:
Wisk ingredients together and put the pads in the liquid allowing time for the pads to soak up the liquid. Rotate the pads so the entire pad is saturated. Store in a glass container.

To Use:
Pull out one cotton pad and start wiping your face. Super simple, people. Be careful around your eyes.

Hope you love them as much as I do.

The Fridge Situation; Thanks Thieves!

We recently went on a cruise and while we were in Jamaica we learned a motto that Jamaican’s supposedly follow:

“In Jamaica there are no problems- only situations, and situations can be dealt with”.

When we got back to land we were faced with our own situation, but at first we didn’t choose to deal with it. Instead, we let our situation grow for nine days. Each day the situation kept growing and each day we pushed it further back in our minds.

Remember, every situation can be dealt with... I’m so glad I learned that trick. My mentality has seriously been changed... ‘seriously mon, its all good, we can deal with this’.

After we arrived home, we continued to eat from the fridge for the first few days.
The next couple of days I stopped eating from the fridge and resorted to the freezer, except, that too had a faint smell of something I can only describe as musty-grass-dirt.... not as bad as the fridge, but bad enough.
Days six and seven were a blur of eating out.
Day eight was when it all hit the fan. I grabbed the ketchup and was smashed in the face with the stench. Except, the stench didn’t go away once I was far from the fridge. It stuck with me, because I was holding the stench. I was holding moldy ketchup.

The mold had literally spread into everything including the condiments. I thought condiments could survive almost anything. Power outages, picnics, even an apocalypse. I specifically remember buying the jumbo bottle of ketchup because I really believed it would never die. I imagined us using this bottle of ketchup for years until it expired.

No, not anymore. The dream killer AKA THE MOLD turned our fridge, including the sacred bottle of ketchup, into a fuzzy petting zoo.

I’m going to spare you the photos and instead tell you how we dealt with our “situation”.

First of all, we had to throw out every single item (We did try to keep a few things, see the photo above, but in the end it all had to go.) from both the fridge and the freezer. Adios to the ketchup, frozen turkey, and even the frozen eye masks (which work great by the way).

Angry about my meal lacking ketchup, I sent out a mass text message in search for anyone who had trash pick up on Tuesday. No one. The closest day was Wednesday

We are notorious for not eating our leftovers. We had fresh produce in the drawers and milk and cheese on the shelves. I think what really put us into this situation was the lasagna Dustin made well before Christmas. Yep. No shame, I said it, I’m owning up to it. Adios to that mold field and the lovely Pyrex dish it was housed in. It all had to go.

We prepped a plan for the big dump. Dustin suggested I take the day off from work... I still don’t know if he was serious. We decided we would triple bag contents of the entire fridge and freezer and drop it off late Tuesday night so it wouldn’t ruin his grandparent's trash can. The trash can is probably ruined, but it has three months before they come home from Florida to smell it... with a few drops of Purification it should be just fine.

With the fridge empty we had some major cleaning to do. Here’s what we used:

Thieves Household Cleaner.
It’s powerful, it’s safe, and I can tell you it really works. You wouldn’t even know we had a mold terrarium in our fridge! The fridge smells like a clean cinnamon-y box. It’s so clean I would lick it, and it doesn’t even smell like bleach!! We all know I'm about as scientific as a roll of aluminium, so go Google 'Thieves vs Bleach Mold' to see why I decided to try Thieves Household Cleaner.

To keep it real, I did not think that Thieves would work... but it was all we had. We don't own a bottle of bleach anymore, so I had to give it a try. I figured if it didn't work we would buy some bleach but I was curious to see if it was going to work.

If it comes back I will let you know, but until it does I think we're good and mold free!
